More soon. 4/12/08-Part of London 6 is up for viewing. Enjoy. 4/5/08-A great screening last night! Once again the program was eclectic and captivating dealing with a wide range of subjects. I had some wonderful conversations concerning the Saint Malo film.(use of sound-Anthropology film?) I find these conversations and interactions very helpful. You can learn about your work, references, and how people react to it. The panel discussion with the all of the filmmakers was also illuminating. This year a professor and filmmaker from American University and a filmmaker from the D.C. alliance joined in to speak about their work, digital distribution, inspirational artists, and the overall climate of independent film/video. Great time. Thanks Makarah! 4/1/08-Saint Malo this Saturday at the Heritage Film Festival. Here is the program-2008 Schedule of films 3/21/08- Saint Malo screening in London postponed. More details soon, but it looks like late spring. 3/15/08-Working on a new piece called On my way to the Cinema. This is a tentative title, it may change. The people who run Sugar Jar played a few tracks from Audible Landscapes on Sunday, March 2, at their normal gathering. Thrilled. 3/2/08-Another amazing day! I will explore the entire day for a later post-but last night's audio event was special. The place was very crowded, much more than in 05. The audio map of the city was upstairs, I went up to take a look, but it was impossible to move around-the room was packed with eager listeners. I can only hope they enjoyed what they heard. The performances were also first rate. The crowd really surprised me. I will keep an eye out for photos and press. Great time. 2/27/08-I am pretty excited about the Sound Scene event this Saturday. Wind/Aria was recorded on a very cold day last winter on the Jefferson Memorial-I put it up as a pod cast a month or so later...This is part of their Audio map of Washington. Here is another link for more info. More soon 2/22/08-Good time last night. The event started off on a very uneasy note (Scheduling Conflicts) but the matter was resolved. There was also a glitch or two during the screening, but I really can't complain. I am glad we managed to pull it off. On a different note, it was interesting how the sounds from the other films intruded on the ambience of our screening....I think Rambo was in theatre 2.....Afterwards, a few of us went out for drinks. 2/16/8-Program for Eclectique Moving Image Series is here. 2/4/08-A number of very exciting events lined up in the next couple of months-screenings and possible audio. Eager to start my next piece. More screening announcements and program for Feb 21st event soon. 1/19/08-Absolutetly incredible night at the lighthouse! The screenings went well, the sounds were diverse and compelling-and the atmosphere was perfect for a very cold January evening. I screened France 1 to open the performances, later London 4 and 5. Basically a film was screened before each performance, which worked out well. Ffff's closed out the evening with amazing beats and loops from his new release. An epic day and evening. 1/11/08-Date change for screening on Jan 24-it is now February 21. More time to promote This actually works out better for me. Also Sockets events on 1/21/08-screening some films with music should be great. Details soon. 1/4/08-Looks like the January 24 screening date for the Academy 8 in Greenbelt is a go, unless they change their minds during the midnight hour. We have been discussing this for a few months now... This program will be focused on Landscape and Memory. This should be really interesting being that is inside a mall, with stadium seating and Dolby sound. This event is the pilot program, so hopefully it will turn out well.. They are hoping to promote independent films, documentaries, the works every month or so. Malia Murray will do the next one in March. This is really unique in a way because we did not have to finance or rent any of the equipment or space. They are facilitating everything; I will have to do some promoting though.. There may be a Sockets event in January as well-keep you posted on that More notes and program soon. 12/19/07-Another productive year is coming to an end...Just finished a little side project which I will elaborate on a little later....Some possible screenings in Jan-more later on that as well. Winter and Spring Movement. over the Holiday for a few friends-nice. New sound pieces on the horizon as well. 11/10/07-Started the first French piece last night-ideas are still forming but the footage looked impressive. 10/28/07-Great time yesterday at Utopia! The program ran smoothly and the attendance was wonderful-a nice mix of people. I was a little concerned about the noon slot, but it really worked out well. I spotted a few familiar faces from the 05 and 06 programs which is always encouraging too. Thanks again to everyone who came out! 10/24/07-If anyone is in Washington D.C and then want a copy of Audible Landscapes-you can buy it here at Red Onion Records & Books-awesome place. Reminder-Festival Sat! 10/22/07-This Saturday at noon- A program of captivating and challenging experimental shorts by moving image artists from around the globe. The films include: Observation of a Satellite by Andrew Busti and Layne Garrett (4 minutes). An homage to the enchanted wanderer, Joseph Cornell. Interstate (part one) by Cortlund and Halperin (6 minutes). A night surveillance artifact. Elephants and zebras move in circadian rhythm while traffic flashes across the stream in waves. Iceland by Fabienne Gautier (4 minutes). Iceland's landsape seems to reflect a particular internlization of feeling. It speaks to the internal mind. London 6 by Chris Lynn (5 minutes). A typical Sunday near a London train station provides the backdrop to this meditative and transformative piece. Premonition by Dominic Angerame (10 minutes). Influenced by the avant garde filmmakers of the 1920s-30s, this is a city symphony that is haunting, lyrical, and serene. Berlin Warszawa Express by Caroline Koebel (19 minutes). A disappearance becomes a departure, but rather than attempting to reconstitute what is lost, the filmmaker follows the clues and signs framing the site with an anticipatory gaze. Midden by David Dinnell (20 minutes). Shot in rural Japan, a video that documents the rapidily disappearing landscape near Mt.Tsukuba. I'm Back by Robert Robertson (13 minutes). I am actually contemplating doing a series of films on France and Quebec-also have not started London 6 yet, but hope to next week. The program for Urban/Rural will also be official in a few weeks. Not a bad summer for screenings, but there should be more announcements soon for Autumn. 8/5/07-The Sockets event was a lot of fun! No technical problems and the music sounded great! 1. The Rabbit Shaman (4 mins). Agnes Háy brings to whimsical and mysterious life the elaborate technique of the Hungarian cross-stitch, counterpointed by a crystalline piece for piano by Laszlo Vidovszky.
2. The Pig Poems (2 mins) The classic suite of Pig Poems, where poet Spike Hawkins was inspired by Larionov’s Scenes from Provincial Life, here brings echoes of the famed Ozark razorback pigs, in this delightful animated setting and reading brought to you from Manhattan, courtesy of Samuel Crow (voice) and Matthew Semel (animation). Spike’s Pig Poems are published by Coracle Press.
3. I’m Back (13 mins) Robert Robertson sets a choice of Spike Hawkins’ poems to film, and attempts to capture what happens at the moment a poem is being written. The poems are from Spike’s collection 250 Grams of Poetry, published by Harwood, and they are read by him.
4. Bloomsbury Walk (4.33) A stroll in a famous literary quarter of London is brought to life by a forest of gestures and glimpses, in the spirit of Jesuit philosopher Michel de Certeau. Witty and atmospheric film-making from Chris Burke and Agnes Háy.
5. London 4 (5 mins) Subtitled Clouds in the Docklands, in this film Chris Lynn has captured city scenes which have become almost invisible to the fretful commuter. He brings a sense of vastness to this urban nature, a wider dimension found in the American landscape tradition.
6. Identité (11 mins) Nancy Petry and Hannelore Storm explore self and persona, using a mirror and painting it, through the mixed-up urban and natural landscapes of Montreal. With music by Sid Gulick.
7. London 5 (8 mins) In London 5 (Unknown Year) the observer; the onlooker, is an active participant within the landscape. Chris Lynn depicts the boundaries of the physical landscape as constantly changing, often vacillating between the visualized, physical demarcations and the internalized, unbounded human experienced - the landscape is both seen and felt. (From an essay by Johnny Young).
8. Microscope (4 mins) Glauco Bermudez’ microscope views reveal astonishing textures and colours, almost reminiscent of larger forms, but at the same time totally different and unique.
9. Drummertrain (5’33”) Glauco Bermudez’ impressions of Montreal – a Mexican perspective on a Canadian city, redolent with alienation, and nostalgia for travel across the endless wilderness, which lies in wait just outside.
10. Trissakia 2 (5 mins) Nick Collins’ cubistic rendering in 16mm film of an ancient Greek church whose ruined state results in layered time.
11. PRESENT (18 mins) The film-maker and poet Maureen Kendal documents the unexpected appearance of a white rope sculpture, in the transcendent green setting of Wimpole Hall Gardens in Cambridgeshire 5/20/07-Great time at Artomatic the other night. London 1-5 was screened without interruption, and Maryland 1 had its premier as well. Engaged in a couple of nice conversations after the screening. Wonderful time 5/15/07-Finished Maryland Songs 1 -She encountered those raging gales tonight-happy with it-may screen it on Friday at Artomatic. My new piece is almost finished and I am really pleased with it. More on this later. 4/21/07-4/21/07-Felt good showing films/videos the other night. I am already thinking about the May 18th screening. Working on a piece now tentatively titled, Always feeling this way. Most of it shot in Maryland. 11/14/06-From the Tank's website- NEW YORK EXPERIMENTAL November 19 @ 6:00 An evening of experimental films from around the globe,
with scenes ranging from dancing plants and Norwegian forests to glimpses of
autumn and meditations on industrial and emotional landscapes. This diverse
program presents the world of organics, as reflected in seasonal changes and
quirky botanical narratives, in contrast with representations of the
contrived existence of urban life and the cult of theatricality. Each work,
using unique devices, presents an intimate glimpse of a particular mental or

A wonderful evening for films/videos and Art. 10/26/06-Utopia this weekend, music with projections at this place tomorrow nite-Screenings in VA and New York City on the way. More soon. The Art Outlet gig is very recent so it should be interesting. 10/10/06-The second annual experimental film program for the Utopia Film Festival will be Saturday, October 28th at 6PM. All in all should be a great evening. I am hoping to screen London 4 and 5-we shall see. I am going to put the schedule up next week, but here is a link to the festival-Utopia Film Festival. Check it out. 9/19/06-Great news! Winter Movement 1 will be screened at the Corcoran Gallery of Art next week for the WPA\C Experimental Media Series, curated by Peggy Parsons. This evening will be held at the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s Armand Auditorium from 7 – 9pm on Wednesday, September 27th. More info soon, just found out today. 9/6/06-Screening this weekend at the Great Northern Railway Tavern in London, more details in a day or so on what films. Also The London Biennale program is moving up north. Apparently the film program will be part of the Liverpool Biennale. More details very soon. Friday, September 1, 2006-Finished London Vignette 4-Clouds and The Docklands and have started 5, which is all Super 8(no title yet)- should be interesting. Some of these films will be screened at the 2nd annual Utopia Film Festival in late October. I have some really incredible pieces to show from moving image artists (the new term for film-makers and video-makers I think) from around the U.S. and beyond. The program deals with Urban/Rural landscapes. I will give a list of the films/videos soon. More potential screenings on the horizon as well. Wednesday, July 26, 2206-Very productive time in London. The lecture at St. Michaels started off a little awkwardly, but improved during the lesson. Three films were screened: Summer Movement 1; Afternoon Song and Untitled Poem. Each film had a unique aspect which I discussed; it could be technical or relating to the theme of the piece. This narrative actually developed during the lesson, which I only discovered afterwards. Summer Movement-the camera is the protagonist-first person cinema-poetic visuals replace text-viewer interprets it their own way. I briefly described how thematically it is linked to the Seasonal Quartet, but I was glad to see the piece stood on its own. Afternoon Song dealt more with the technical side of things-the use of sound-how sounds can be evocative-the waves, the children to heighten a piece. Also I revealed where the actual sounds were recorded, not in Brighton, and how the link (sounds) was created through Art (editing). The other technical aspect which was discussed was Super 8 film compared to digital video. One student was really taken by the hypnotic effect of the images Super 8 film can create. Robert discussed quite a bit of this as well. He also mentioned the mechanical rhythms of the roller coaster and its relation to sight-You become transfixed with the image through the repetitive montage. Untitled Poem-a new piece. I really was not planning on discussing this work, I just wanted some feedback when I took it over to London; but it went over well. Here I discussed Narrative-The theme of exile and new homelands. The poet and the pilot are both from a different country, their adopted homeland is viewed from the skies ...The two are drawn together by voice and image, even though they are not together in the actual footage. An excellent time. I was invited back next year as well. Speaking of Exiles, the second part of London Biennale begins in mid August and the theme is exile. They are going to screen London Vignettes 1-3 and Untitled Poem. This ends in September More details soon. I started working on London 4 today. I am told the screenings are going well in the Gallery. Friday, July 7, 2006-I'm off to London for screenings, a few lectures, and catching up with some of my friends. Will keep the page posted, if I can. Check Traces or Film Forum if I cannot post on this page. Thursday, June 29, 2006-Finished version 1 of my next piece called Untitled Poem. I like it; it's the first time I used a voice over in a long while. More details on that work later. On a different note, the Alvin Lucier film was inspired by his epic sound piece-Music on a long thin wire, which I recommend for those willing to travel down the sound road less listened . Friday, June 16, 2006-Proper bio on IMDB here. Finished a short, short film called Thinking of Alvin Lucier, more of a sound piece, but I really like it. I will post on the site soon. Wednesday, June 14, 2006-The screening went very well-Here is the programme-
Tuesday, June 13, 2006-Screening tonight in London-hope it went well. Thursday, May 25, 2006-To view the article in The Prince George's Post on the Heritage Film Festival click on the following: Page 1|Page 2 Saturday, May 13, 2006-I have gone back and reedited some of my London video-I am going to post a few alternative versions on this site though. I feel that both are interesting in their own way. I am also going to post my protest piece from January 2003. Screening at the Landscape and Arts Gallery on June 13th in London and it looks like a few of my films are going to be part of the London Biennale, which is incredibly exciting. On a local level, possibly an event in Adams Morgan on June 11th. More details on all events soon. I also plan to post a solid review of the Heritage film Festival as well. I will be relived to start working on London Vignettes 4-6 and some other side projects Thursday, April 13, 2006-Finished the first 3 pieces of my London series, just need to touch up things around the edges. I plan on starting the next three shortly. This project will take me some time and I hope to step away from it now and then to work on other films. I foresee at least 20 films or more. Also some wonderful screenings in the near future hopefully. Lastly, Thanks to Robert Robertson this man sat and watched three segments of the Seasonal Quartet on a rainy, mild night in June. I mention this because of the 100th anniversary of Samuel Beckett. Thursday, March 30, 2006-The Heritage Film and Video Festival was outstanding! Much better than I anticipated-Here is the description of Autumn Movement 1 in the program Guide: "The subtle use of silence in this experimental work helps us to focus on the visual beauty of the season as the silent autumn seems to morph into the active spring" Other notable works: Joe Reinsel: Free Radical Audio and ITISTA. Jerry A. Henry: I Promised Africa. Mustafa Khan: Coming to Life: Stories of Hope, Healing and Aids. The event was put together by O.F. Makarah, who simply did a fantastic job. The event was held at P.G Community College. Saturday, March 16, 2006-Autumn Movement 1 will be screened here next week. I am looking forward to it. I managed to get something productive done last week with the London piece, but this week was a disappointment. Difficulty finding some important files. I will put more details up about the festival soon. Sunday, March 5, 2006-More editing this week-I am hoping to finish the first 3 minutes of the film-it has been a very difficult process to say the least. Thursday, March 2, 2006-- Monday, February 20, 2006-Thanks for the links
and comments. This is happening in London on 4/12/06-Wednesday,
April 12th. "Wilderness of the Imagination" Sunday, February 12, 2006-My second screening or event at the nowuno was pretty special. This was the first time I had any type of collaboration with other artists or musicians in an improv setting. The Seasonal Cycle was screened on one side of the room while Jay Rees and Heather Levy's hand painted films were screened on 35m just above. The experimental group Cutest Puppy in the World performed while the images bounced off each other. They do not rehearse, nor do they know what they will perform before hand. They really did a tremendous job. They created wonderful, haunting textures that served the images well. We discussed doing another event, incorporating sound samples from the films, or having the films themselves becoming more non-linear, starting/stopping the projector becoming a sound tool. We also discussed John Cage, Musique Concrete, Prelinger Archives among other things. The crowd was smaller due to the snow. The walk back to the metro was simply incredible. A fantastic night!
Wed., Feb. 8, 2006- On 2/11/06 -Another event at the nowuno gallery-Go here for details-http://www.tiffanyarts.com/nowuno.html . This band will be performing there as well with Sunday, January 22, 2006-The screenings went very well last night. The Gallery opening was a success-the place was packed. The Seasonal Quartet was screened with films by Jay Rees and Heather Levy. I was also able to show two of Robert's pieces. The projector arrived a little late, but everything worked out. There will be another event in a few weeks and Jay is considering moving the films upstairs among the paintings. It felt good to be around creative people, and to also see the Gallery have a wonderful turnout. All of the feedback was positive. I encourage people to check this place out in the next couple of months. The paintings are impressive.. I was also able to find out about other events that will be happening in the city in the next few weeks-keep you posted. Autumn and Spring pieces seemed to be the favorites. Also felt good to be part of an event in D.C. The last event was sometime in November 2002, I am not counting Utopia which was in Maryland. Tuesday- Info on the Screening Sat on my Screenings page, Cinema page, and Events and Screenings. Here is a link to the Gallery-http://www.tiffanyarts.com/nowuno.html Sunday, January 8, 2005-The Seasonal Quartet will be screened as an installation at the nowuno Gallery in Washington D.C. on January 21. There will also be an experimental Jazz group playing along with the images as well, later in the evening. This should be fun and exciting. There will be paintings by Jay Rees and others; it is a brand new space near Capitol Hill. More details soon. Going back in he studio later this week. to work on London piece. Afternoon song has been Archived here if anyone wants to download the film. Go to Open Source Movies and type in my name. You can also listen to my Umbrella Suite 1,which I donated to the Audio section under Electronic music. Type in Umbrella Suite or my name. Thursday, December 15, 2005-Finally started my London piece! I most likely will create many films from this, a twenty part series with references, footnotes, narration, bits of sounds, poetry, maybe a narrative as well.. For those interested a clip from Spring Movement 1 is up on the video page. Screening announcements soon . Good things to come in the new year, hopefully. Wednesday, November 30, 2005-I have been put on this list, which is awesome. Thursday, November 24, 2005-Well the festival is over and I feel really good about it-I can now begin working on a number of projects that have been put aside due to time constraints. I have had a number of ideas that I want to incorporate in the new films that are quite different from the Seasonal Quartet . I have been reading Joseph Jourbert lately and I found that his text is something I can relate to in a film sense-Here are a few lines- The beauties of transition and those of isolation. One writes with a pen, the other with a brush-We can add a camera to this. There are truths that cannot be apprehended in conversation And travel through open spaces where one sees nothing but light.....like Plato. More lines to come from Jourbert-written in the Eighteenth century. Friday, October 21, 2005-Got a sneak preview of the Utopia Festival tonight in my living room-great films from Loo, Yalkut, Robertson, Yarochevsky, Whitehall, Morgan, Collins, and a few surprises too. I am going to put the link up soon on the Events and Screenings page. My Seasonal Quartet will be on as well. Thursday September 22, 2005 After a few glitches the Seasonal Quartet is complete-The DVD coming soon- Also spent the weekend filming in the Gallery, should be interesting. I am considering doing a piece on Winslow Homer. Sunday, September 11, 2005-This is coming soon-Submit. Friday, September 2, 2005 This is very cool! Flicker has added me to the Artists page. Click on and scroll down. Explore the site as well. I am going to hold off screening Spring Movement 1 this weekend and probably premier it at the Utopia Film festival. I am under the impression Winter Movement 1 or January 2002 may be screened. I will know by tomorrow. Tuesday, August 23, 2005-Spring movement 1 is finished! There may be a screening at the Old Greenbelt theatre next week. I will post when I know for sure. Wednesday, August 3, 2005 I have been working on the Spring piece and it is coming along, incorporating some interesting audio, but it generally follows the other seasonal pieces, in tone and style. The Mill will be screened tonight at the New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt, MD as well. I will not be able to make the screening, so if you go enjoy.
